The kindergarten day
We are passionate about giving children unhurried time and space to connect with the world around them. No two days are the same, times are flexible to allow for a more authentic child led approach - we don’t believe in interrupting the flow of play!
9.30am - 9.45am:Welcome
Children arrive and are greeted by a member of staff at the gate. We gather in the cabin by the gate where children self register and are supported by practitioners to change into wellies and waterproofs. We use this opportunity to discuss the weather conditions, appropriate clothing and recap our kindergarten safety rules.
9.50am: Walk to the forest
Gates are locked and the children help load the trolley before we set off to our woodland camp. We make a stop at the compost toilets along the way before continuing our journey to base camp.
10.00am - 12.15pm: Free play
Children are free to play in the woodland or in the tree house shelter. They have access to open ended resources that help to stimulate their curiosity, creativity and imagination. Our practitioners are on hand to facilitate and support the children in their play and learning. Open access to snack is available during this session.
12.15pm - 1pm: Lunch and rest
Children and adults wash hands before gathering together to eat lunch. Children bring a packed lunch from home. After lunch, we have story time in our cosy cubby. Children are encouraged to rest or sleep if necessary.
1pm - 1.50pm: Free play
Children return to free play or take part in one of our enrichment activities such as yoga, music or woodwork.
1.50pm - 2.00pm: Pack away
Practitioners support children to tidy away resources and make sure the woodland is left as we found it. Time to pack up the trolley and head back to the Cabin.
2.00pm: Walk back to cabin
Practitioners help children to change out of wellies and waterproofs. We spend a few minutes discussing our day while we wait for our parents to arrive
2.20pm - 2.30pm: Home time
Parents collect their children
